Te Wānanga o Raukawa Foundation Scholarships
The Foundation proudly distributes funds to Te Wānanga o Raukawa to support the Foundation Scholarships available to students at the start of each academic year.
What is the application criteria?
Māori students from all iwi are encouraged to apply for the scholarship, however, preference will be given to descendants from the three Founding Iwi:
- Ngāti Toa Rangatira
- Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai
- Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga
What is the value of the scholarships?
On approval the scholarship is applied to the study fees in two payments, one mid-year and the second on completion of studies at the end of the academic year (December). Where fees are paid by the due date (within six weeks of confirmation of enrolment) there is an option to pay the scholarship to the student. Please indicate your preference in the form.

Founding Iwi Distributions
In addition to scholarships, the Foundation also provides an annual distribution amount of up to $10,000 to Founding Iwi for the purposes of events that align to our charitable purpose (whakatupu mātaraunga, whakahaere).
The Founding Iwi entities the distributions are managed through are:
- Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira (Ngāti Toa)
- Te Rūnanga o Raukawa (Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga)
- Whakarongotai Marae Trustees (Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai)
Applying for the distribution
Founding Iwi entities can apply for the distribution at any time during our financial year (1 April - 31 March). There is now an online form that can be found here:

What is the process to apply for the distribution?
- Founding Iwi entities must apply using the online form,
- Complete the form and answer all the questions (including the distribution amount sought),
- Once received, the application will be tabled at the Quarterly Board Hui,
- The Board considers the application,
- If approved, payment will be processed shortly after to the nominated entities account.
